School Profile
School History and Facilities
St. Pius X was first built in 1961 and in 1982 an addition was made to the school adding a gymnasium and doubling the number of classrooms including our library.
Presently there are 13 classrooms including three classrooms in two portables. The school is very well designed on one floor with the office and library centrally located.
Our school is wheel-chair accessible and designed to meet the needs of special education students.Recently, we improved our playground. The fence was moved to expand the play area for our students.
St. Pius X School is designated an Active School and we work hard to promote physical activity and healthy food choices.
We are a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 school serving students from the following boundary areas:
Red River Road to the North, South to Oliver Road, West from the Expressway and East to Algonquin Avenue.Since our boundary includes the new area of River Terrace (stage II), we are currently monitoring our enrolment. We may see an increase in our numbers as new houses continue to be built in our area.
School Mascot
Our mascot is the phoenix, a fabulous bird from ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology. According to legend, the phoenix has splendid gold and red feathers and a remarkable singing voice. It lives for 500 to 1000 years, and when it feels near death, it builds itself a nest of sweet-smelling wood and sets itself on fire. As the old phoenix burns, a new phoenix springs forth from the flames! Because of this remarkable ability, the phoenix is used in literature as a symbol of life after death.
The phoenix is a terrific mascot for our school because our students are beautiful, they have outstanding singing voices and they never give up. When they crash and burn at work or play, they pick themselves up out of the flames and start over again!
We are the St. Pius X Phoenix. Our colours are gold for excellence, white for goodness, and black for determination.
St. Pius X Phoenix: a great mascot for a great school!
