School Profile

St. Paul is an elementary school located in the heart of the Current River area of Thunder Bay.  The school was built in 1956 and renovated in 1998. As part of the renovations, a gymnasium, library, learning centre, three classrooms, a mudroom, a kitchen, a photocopy room, and a new office were added to the school.

The St. Paul School community comprises a diverse population from a variety of cultural and socio-economic levels.  Our school serves approximately 140 families and 188 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6.  In total, we have eight classrooms and our building is wheelchair accessible.

Upon graduation from St. Paul, our students continue their Catholic education at Bishop Gallagher School for grades 7 and 8, then at St. Ignatius High School for grades 9 through 12.

At St. Paul, we nurture the spiritual needs of our community through our strong links with Our Lady of Loretto parish.  The Christian Living and Family Life programs are integrated into the daily curriculum and a prayer corner is an important element in each classroom.  Prayer services, liturgies and social justice projects are an integral part of life at St. Paul.

The teaching staff at St. Paul is dedicated to the learning, health, and safety needs of all our students.  We focus on the expectations of the Ontario curriculum, with particular attention to new developments in the fields of literacy and numeracy.  Recent projects include the Differentiating for Success pilot project, a Healthy School initiative (focusing on good nutrition, a Healthy Snack program, and regular physical activity), divisional working sessions on literacy, numeracy and EQAO strategies, development of a new school mascot and spirit clothing, and planning for our school’s 50th Year celebrations.

We enjoy a excellent working relationship with our Catholic School Council which focuses on goals related to faith, curriculum and community spirit.  Parent volunteers play a vital role at St. Paul; they work with the teaching staff to enrich the school experience for our students.

St. Paul School is a community of learners who work collaboratively to provide academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.
