September 1, 2009

   Dear Parent/Guardian:

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BEING A PART OF ST. PATRICK HIGH SCHOOL

CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL?

School Councils across the province are mandatory and deal with issues related to the following:  conduct of persons in schools; appropriate dress for pupils in schools; allocation of funding for school councils; fundraising activities of schools and school councils as per Board policy; conflict resolution processes for school councils; reimbursement of expenses incurred by school council members; action plans for improvement based on EQAO reports on results of tests and the communication of these plans; selection criteria and placement of principals and vice-principals; and review of Board polices that relate to pupil achievement or to the accountability of the education system to parents/guardians. Your voice is needed!  Your involvement is welcomed!  Eight parent representatives will be selected through an election process, one of whom will be elected the Chair of the Catholic School Council.  Enclosed is a Catholic School Council Nomination Form.  Once completed, it may be submitted to the school principal in person or by your child to the office.  If you know a parent/guardian who you feel would be an excellent representative, why not consider encouraging him or her to run for election?  The following dates have been established to put our Catholic School Council into place.

September 1:     Nomination form sent home - Sept. 1, 2009.

September :   Deadline for nomination forms to be sent back to

the school.  (Additional nomination forms are available from the school

                                       office.)

September :   School will send home candidate profiles.

September :   Election Day at the school from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  One ballot                              per parent/guardian.

October :          Initial Council Meeting – 7:00 p.m. – School Library

Board policy states that a majority of the members of the Catholic School Council shall be Catholic parent/guardian members as elected by parent/guardians of the students attending the school.  All elected candidates will be asked to sign a written declaration that they will support and promote the Board’s mission statement and Catholic philosophy of education.

Should you have any questions, or wish further information about the establishment of the Catholic School Council, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Francis Veneruz, Principal
