Courses

The provision of different types of courses in the secondary school program is designed to provide all students with the essential knowledge and skills they will need in any area of endeavour, as well as the opportunity to specialize in areas that are related to their particular postsecondary goals.

The types of courses offered and their organization provide for a graduated streaming of courses in Grade 9 to 12 that will keep options open for all students in the earlier grades and prepare students in senior grades for their future destinations.

St. Ignatius High School operates primarily on a two semester or term system. This type of organization means that the school year is divided into two equal parts with the student taking one half (four) of the year's credits in each semester or part. The first semester is scheduled from September to the end of January and the second semester is from February to the end of June. Some credits however may be offered on a non-semester basis. In order to meet Ministry of Education and Training requirements for full credits, each daily class is at least seventy-five (76) minutes per day.
